Hammer curls are a great alternative to standard curls.
They are different than standard curls because they really hit your brachioradialis muscle which runs from your wrist, across the inside portion of your elbow and into your upper arm.
In this example you will notice that I go very far back with the dumbbell. The reason for this is that by going back this far you also give the delts some work.

Make sure you go slow throughout the movement. If you can't solidly control the entire movement lower the amount of weight you are using.
